On Friday we participated in "Read Across America" day. We had so much fun! We spent the week learning all about Dr. Seuss and each day read a different story (we will continue to read his books during March). On Friday we read all day and had fun Dr. Seuss themed snacks.
On Thursday we made up our own characters that we would have in our book if we wrote a book like Dr. Seuss. I was very impressed with all of the creativity, and the fact that the majority of the students used lots of adjectives in their writing! This is something that we have really been working on and writing longer sentences so I was so happy to see that they did it on their own!
We also had a door decorating contest, so we based ours on "Oh the Places You'll Go!" Each student made a person to put on the "mountain" and then wrote a sentence about a book that they have read this year.
What fun things have you done (or are planning to do) for Dr. Seuss?
I love those snacks! I might even be able to handle making the Lorax ones! We are doing our Seuss books this week. I love the day when they bring in a stuffed animal from home and we read if I Ran the Zoo and use our animals to make up our own mixed up zoo animal. So glad I found you!

ReplyDeleteLove the Dr. Seuss door decoration. It is especially appropriate that they were on the mountain and writing about a book they have read. "Oh the places they can go with books!"

My favorite activity we did for Dr. Seuss was dress up day! It was a school wide thing and it was so much fun. My son, who is in Kindergarten where I teach, and I dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2.

Oh, those Seuss snacks are great! I love reading the other ideas for Seuss Day, too. I love your decorations for Oh, The Places You'll Go! Very creative to make the decoration so personal with the photos of the children. Every year I think the kids will grow tired of Dr Seuss books during this week, but that NEVER happens. They love reading and listening to his timeless stories.

It's really encouraging to hear that your students are using adjectives on their own. We are still working on that. The Dr. Seuss snacks are so cute! I really like the Lorax snacks made from the Nutter Butter cookies.
